ROCKFALL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

Athena is under contract with TDOT to provide rock slope ratings for approximately 1,200 potential rockfall sites spread over a period of 4 years in most of the counties in Region 1 of TDOT. The purpose of the work is to improve overall rockfall safety by the updating the existing Rockfall Management Program (RMP) rock slope ratings as well as adding new rock slope sites with ratings to the system for future remediation plans. Athena used TDOT’s GeoHazards database through ArcGIS to display and manage the potential rockfall locations along with updated rockfall ratings graphically.

Athena has also provided consulting on several rock slope failures, including on SR36 in Unicoi County. We designed the concept for stabilizing the failed rock. Our design included post-tensioned rock anchors, soil nails and a shotcrete face for the overburden and a row of horizontal drains.
